Position : STAFF VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT - INTERNAL AUDIT OFFICER


Job Description

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invite applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals to fill a vacant position of Internal Audit Officer tenable in the University. The Internal Audit Officer shall assist in carrying out of audits and investigations in accordance with established audit protocols and manuals to assess availability and effectiveness of internal controls and recommend improvements where necessary.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities


• Assist in Audit Planning and Risk Assessment for planned risk-based audit assignments.
• Carry out tests critically and analysing systems to establish procedural lapses and weaknesses that could facilitate irregularities or fraud.
• Draft audit findings and recommendations for improvements of internal controls including areas of non-compliance.
• Assist in Investigation of reports on frauds, flouting of internal controls and other irregularities.
• Assist in conducting accountability reviews for all material frauds, losses reported and breach of procedures and to establish personal accountability.
• Assist in follow up audits for various assignments.
• Participate in quarterly and yearly stock counts for the University.
• Comprehensively document all work done on working papers and maintain audit fi le.
• Participate in proceedings where legal counsel for the University requires such attendance;
• Carry out any other reasonable and lawful instruction as given to the incumbent by the University Internal Auditor.

Requirements

  • • Interested candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Internal Audit or any relevant qualification obtained from a reputable institution of higher learning.
    • At least 3 years of work experience in a similar position in a highly challenging working environment/organisation.
    • Those studying towards professional qualifications in accounting and auditing shall have an added advantage.
    • Be a registered member of ICAM, the Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
