In a landmark move set to transform higher education in Malawi, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is pleased to inform the public that it has established the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CCEPD). This pioneering initiative is designed to foster lifelong learning and continuous professional growth, crucial elements for meeting the strategic objectives of the National Educational Sector Investment Plan (NESIP) 2020-30.
The CCEPD is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." It stands as an essential outreach strategy for LUANAR, offering a diverse array of short courses, training programs, workshops, and seminars tailored to the evolving demands of the job market.
• The CCEPD aspires to become a premier centre of excellence for lifelong learning, dedicated to the development of individuals and organizations.
• Its mission is to expand the University's reach by addressing lifelong learning needs through quality, accessible, innovative, and responsive education and training programs, leveraging LUANAR's strengths and its partnerships.
• The motto, "Meeting lifelong learning needs," encapsulates this mission succinctly.
• The centre has currently offered short courses and recently enrolled its first cohort of professional diploma programmes on weekend arrangement at LUANAR City Campus.
• Strategic partnerships with industry, businesses, government agencies, and professional associations will be established to maintain course relevance.
• These partnerships will help ensure that the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, addressing current industry trends and delivered by experienced instructors.
• The center aims to: facilitate lifelong learning opportunities for diverse learners, offer a variety of courses, intensive professional courses, and special demand-driven programs and foster collaboration between the university, government agencies, and industry.
• Programs at the CCEPD cater to personal and professional growth in fields including agricultural sciences, natural resources, economics, business, management, education, information technology, energy, and engineering.
• The center offers both credited and non-credited short-term certificate courses, with awards ranging from Certificates of Completion for non-credited courses to University Postgraduate Certificates for credited one-semester postgraduate courses and professional diplomas.
• Training programs at CCEPD will offer flexible delivery options, including residential or non-residential formats and various learning modalities such as in-person classes, online courses (ODeL), workshops, seminars, and hybrid models.
• Accreditation from relevant educational and professional bodies will be sought to ensure the highest standards are met.
