The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is implementing
the BT Maize Project aimed at advancing agricultural innovations and sustainability in
Malawi. The Project is looking for 3 Research Field Supervisors to be stationed in Zomba,
Salima and Mangochi respectively. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Field Operations Management: Supervise day-to-day field activities, including land
preparation, planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting of BT Maize.
• Team Supervision: Manage and coordinate field workers, ensuring tasks are completed
effeciently and according to protocol.
• Data Collection and Reporting: Oversee the accurate collection of field data, including
crop performance, pest infestation, and environmental conditions.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all field activities adhere to research protocols, biosafety
standards, and project objectives.
• Training and Mentorship: Train field start on best practices in handling BT GMO maize
and data recording.
• Logistics Coordination: Manage field logistics, such as procurement of inputs, allocation
of tools, and transport arrangements.
• Pest and Weed Monitoring: Monitor pest and weed activity, implementing control
measures and maintaining detailed records.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of field
equipment and tools.
• Compliance Oversight: Ensure all field trials comply with GMO regulatory and
environmental guidelines.
• Communication: Report field updates, challenges, and recommendations to the Trial
Manager.
