Overview
The Programme is a two-year comprising of one year coursework and another year of research work following entry requirements, procedures and guidelines of existing University postgraduate programmes. The coursework shall be delivered using mostly face-to-face delivery mode. However, a blended mode of e-learning and face-to-face learning shall be encouraged except for practical sessions.
Duration
The first year will be for attending core and elective modules as well as the development of the research proposal (and implementation of the research project conditions permitting). The second year will be for the finalization of the implementation of the research project; production of the research report (thesis); production of academic papers accruing from the research as well as presenting the thesis report.
Enrolment and targeted numbers of graduates
The Department shall enrol and graduate at least 5 students at each programme cycle to its MSc in Animal Science programme. The Department will strive to ensure that at least one of the 5 students is international by advertising the programme regionally and internationally.
Research outputs, patents and innovations
The students enrolled in the Programme will be encouraged to participate in the Department’s research and outreach activities around the Bunda College Campus, within Malawi and abroad. The programme shall require students to do a research project as a partial fulfilment requirement for the award of a degree. Students and their supervisors shall be encouraged to publish their research work, make discoveries and innovations and patent them.
Community outreach activities related to the programme
The programme shall require students to work with communities surrounding the University and beyond to solve the communities’ problems and come up with animal science innovations.
Candidates for admission into the programme will be those with a credit or a strong pass in a BSc degree in Animal Science or related programmes.
