LUANAR this week proudly hosted a high-level delegation of nine experts from the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), led by Prof. Robert Ayine, for a comprehensive five-day assessment of our teaching, learning, research, and infrastructure facilities. Also present throughout the assessment process was Mrs. Masozi Gausi, Programme Registration Officer from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), who monitored the exercise to ensure alignment with national higher education standards.

The visit commenced on Monday with a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Kaunda, who welcomed the delegation and highlighted how the exercise reinforces LUANAR’s mission to be a competitive, globally recognized institution. “Feel free as you engage with your community. This assessment is an opportunity for growth, and we greatly value the insights you will provide,” said the VC. The delegation evaluated two postgraduate programmes under the Departments of Extension and Development Economics at master’s and PhD levels. They interacted with students and staff, gathering insights on programme strengths, quality of delivery, and opportunities for enhancement.

During the exit meeting, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the visiting team and LUANAR staff for their commitment. “Don’t dwell on the past victory— let’s continue improving. Take every issue raised as an opportunity for excellence,” he emphasized. He further praised the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DOQA), under the leadership of Dr. Thomas Nyanda, for pushing LUANAR toward full accreditation and commended the Deputy Vice Chacellor, Associate Professor Agnes Mwangwela for championing a culture of quality across the institution.

Prof. Robert Ayine applauded LUANAR’s strong infrastructure development, vibrant research initiatives, and innovative approaches to teaching, particularly the introduction of model farms, a signature LUANAR advantage that gives students exceptional hands-on experience beyond the classroom. Prof. Paul Kibwika and Prof. Lloyd James Baiyegunhi echoed these sentiments, describing LUANAR as an institution demonstrating remarkable growth and potential.

The team departed on Friday after compiling a report to be submitted to the IUCEA Council in Kenya. This assessment not only strengthens our commitment to continuous improvement but also positions LUANAR as a competitive and attractive destination for students, researchers, and partners across Africa and beyond. We remain dedicated to nurturing knowledge, driving innovation, and delivering education that transforms communities.
