Projects

The NEPAD Regional Fish Node is coordinating and implementing several programs/initiatives to ensure that there is:

1) Knowledge generation, dissemination, technology development and adoption for Improved livelihood and increased incomes for fish farmers, fishers, fish processors and traders 2) Networking of researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders for increased and sustainable fish production in Africa 3) Policy analysis and dialogue in fisheries and aquaculture for African countries 4) Quality of education and research in fisheries and aquaculture 5) Enhanced participation of women and youths in fisheries and aquaculture production and management.

NEPAD Partnership for African Fisheries (PAF)-Aquaculture Working Group (AWG)

 

NEPAD in 2011 established the Aquaculture Working Group (AWG) within the Partnerships for African Fisheries (PAF) to provide strategic approaches to effective policy development and investment options for more positive performance of the aquaculture sector.. Read more

 

African Fisheries Experts Network (Afri-fishnet)

Afri-fishnet is a pool of Africa's of fisheries experts and act as a continental ‘thinktank’ in response to the need for increased skills in undertaking research and policy analysis as required by CAADP. Read more or visit Afri-fishnet website


RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP)

 

Community Action Research Program (CARP) is implementing a Project “Enhancing Fish Production and Marketing for Food Security and Income of Small-scale Producers in Malawi”, with an overall objective of increasing fish production from current level of 750kg/ha/yr to 1,500kg/ha/yr and rural incomes through application of aquaculture innovations in the value chain in Dowa and Mchinji Districts.

The project is working together with 68 fish farmers who own 80 ponds in total (30 in Dowa and 50 in Mchinji districts). Read More on CARP, Fish harvests by CARP fish farmers

BioFISA Fish Project

 

The BioFISA fish project aims at obtaining an understanding of the origins and maintenance of indigenous fish biodiversity in Southern Africa through scientific research. The overall objective of the project is that, by 2015, information on fish biodiversity is readily available and used for decision making in at least five countries within the Southern African NEPAD Region.
