About Dr Dean KAMPANJE-PHIRI

Dean Kampanje‑Phiri, PhD is a lecturer and researcher specializing in environmental and natural resources management, with a focus on integrated catchment management and climate resilience. Holding advanced degrees in Water Resources Management, he has built a career at the intersection of research, policy, and practice, strengthening sustainable livelihoods across Malawi and beyond. His research interests span climate‑sensitive agriculture systems, watershed management, water pollution control, and renewable energy. As a supervisor of MSc and undergraduate students, Dr. Kampanje‑Phiri guides research in catchment modeling, water pollution analytics, watershed governance, climate change impacts on water and agriculture systems, and carbon emissions analysis. At LUANAR’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources Management, he leads the Water, Energy, and Livelihoods/Food Research Group, advancing work on watershed governance, soil health, and climate‑smart agriculture. His research has informed national programs through outcome surveys and environmental assessments, shaping evidence‑based policy. A meticulous researcher and mentor, Dr. Kampanje‑Phiri is committed to addressing environmental challenges in catchments that threaten food production, human health, and energy security, while cultivating the next generation of scholars and practitioners.
