About Dr Clara CHIDAMMODZI-BEMA

Clara is an academic and researcher with expertise in environmental management, environmental assessments and pollution documentation, ecosystem services evaluation, sustainable development, water resources governance, integrated lake basin management, participatory community research, stakeholder engagement, local institutions, and capacity building. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on ecosystems and biosphere stewardship, population-environment dynamics, environmental governance, transboundary natural resources management, and climate change and urban development. Her work focuses on understanding and addressing the complex interactions between human systems and natural environments, with particular emphasis on promoting sustainable resource management and utilization and resilient ecosystems. She contributes to Malawi’s National Ecosystem Assessment as a co-author in the Wetlands Technical Working Group and has been recognized with the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leadership Award (2016). Passionate about environmental stewardship, Clara's work aims to contribute to evidence-based policy, capacity building, and the advancement of sustainable development practices, particularly in contexts where environmental sustainability, community well-being, and development priorities intersect, while mentoring the next generation of environmental leaders.
