Phytochemical Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Edible Wild Fruits from Malawi
The purpose of this study was to investigate the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of 17 edible wild fruits that are widely distributed and consumed in Malawi for pharmacological value exploration
Total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity of Senna singueana, Melia azedarach, Moringa oleifera and Lannea discolor herbal plants
Senna singueana, Melia azedarach, Moringa oleifera and Lannea discolor are claimed to be effective in the management of cancer by some traditional herbal practitioners in Malawi. The study evaluated methanol extracts of leaves of S. singueana, M. azedarach, M. oleifera and barks of L. discolor for total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and antioxidant activity.
Systematic review and chemoinformatics analysis of anti-allergic medicinal plants used in Malawi
In Malawi, ethnobotanical surveys have been carried out on the plants used to treat or manage allergies and their symptoms. However, studies focusing on information analysis such as systematic reviews of anti-allergic plants and natural products are not yet published. This review highlighted and analysed data of potential anti-allergic medicinal plants used in Malawi in order to discover potential treatments for allergies through various approaches and improve well-being of people.
Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants claimed by traditional herbal practitioners to manage cancers in Malawi
This study documented medicinal plants that are claimed by traditional herbal practitioners (THPs) to manage specific types of cancers in Mzimba and Nkhata Bay districts of the northern region of Malawi
Seasonal Variation of Phytochemicals in Four Selected Medicinal Plants
The study aimed at assessing total alkaloids content (TAC), total flavonoids content (TFC), total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity (AA) and predominant individual phenolic compounds in methanol extracts of M. oleifera, S.singueana, M.azedarach leaves and stem barks of L. discolor collected during different seasons of the year.
Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants Used for Management of Cancer in Karonga District, Northern Malawi
In Malawi, cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. This has led to increased use of herbal medicines for cancer management. Objective: This study aimed at identifying medicinal plants that are used for the management of cancer in the southern area of Karonga district, Northern Malawi.
Phytochemicals in commonly consumed foods in malawian diets
The aim of this research was to screen phytochemicals in commonly consumed fruits and vegetables in Malawi. The effect of processing vegetables on phytochemicals was also evaluated.
Antioxidant Activity of Selected Medicinal Plants Used by Traditional Herbal Practitioners to Treat Cancer in Malawi
This study evaluated the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of Piliostigma thonningii (Schumach.) Milne-Redh, Psorospermum febrifugum Spach, Inula glomerata Oliv. and Hiern, Zanthoxylum chalybeum Engl. and Monotes africanus A.DC., claimed to treat cancer by Malawian traditional herbal practitioners.

This review discusses an overview of the prevalence studies of Arsenic in foodstuffs and water, as well as their toxic effects and remediation measures employed to deal with the problem in Malawi.
Chapter 7 - Chromatographic fingerprinting and spectroscopic profiling of cannabinoids
In this chapter, various methods that have been applied to the identification and quantification of phytocompounds found in Cannabis sativa are discussed
Chapter 2 - Ethnobotanical utilisation and status of Cannabis sativa L.
In this chapter, a literature review summary of ethnomedicinal updates for Cannabis sativa L, such as modes of administration, parts used, preparation methods, and countries or parts of the world using it, is discussed
Effects of solvent extraction on the phytoconstituents and in vitro antioxidant activity properties of leaf extracts of the two selected medicinal plants from Malawi
This study evaluated and compared the phytochemical and antioxidant properties of the solvent extracts of Azadirachta indica A. Juss and Vernonia amygdalina Del leaves. Methanolic and aqueous extracts showed high (P ≤ 0.05) extract yields (in %), compared to chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts from both V. amygdalina and A. indica leaves.
