Dr. Angstone Thembachako Mlangeni, PhD, MRSC Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Biochemistry, LUANAR Dr. Angstone Thembachako Mlangeni is a Senior Lecturer at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) with expertise in food chemistry, toxicology, and biochemistry. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen and is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC). Dr. Mlangeni’s research focuses on trace elements in food, soil, and water, using advanced techniques such as ICP-MS and HPLC. With over 20 years in education, he began his career as a teacher at Likuni Girls secondary school in 2000 and later as a Deputy Headmaster of Mtenthera community Day secondary School before joining the Malawi Defence Force Secondary School in 2002 as a Mathematics and Physical Science Teacher. In 2008, he joined LUANAR’s Natural Resources College (now LUANAR) as a Lecturer in Chemistry and Biochemistry, before advancing to Senior Lecturer position in 2016. His teaching includes courses in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, General Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Toxicology, and Biochemistry. Dr. Mlangeni has held significant leadership roles at LUANAR, including Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences (2022–present), Head of the Department of Natural Resources (2020–2022, 2013–2015), and Program Leader for Basic Studies (2011–2013). He has contributed to program development, including BSc degrees in Natural and Applied Sciences, Computer Science, and Food Technology, as well as a Diploma in Agriculture Education. His research has resulted in over 20 publications in reputable journals, and he has served as a reviewer for Food Chemistry (Elsevier) since 2018. Dr. Mlangeni has also led consultancy projects, such as the training needs assessment for secondary school agriculture teachers and the delivery of community-based natural resources management courses. He mentors early career researchers. Dr. Mlangeni’s work continues to influence the field of chemistry, advancing both education and research in food safety, toxicology, and environmental monitoring.
