Dr. Charity Chanza has extensive experience in agricultural extension, and international & rural development. Her teaching and research focus are on agricultural extension systems and methodologies, extension program planning and development, innovation systems, rural development, and gender and development. Areas of particular research interest include extension and communication for smallholder farming systems, agrifood systems, agricultural innovation processes, climate smart agriculture, gender, inequalities and social inclusion and exclusion and land tenure systems. Dr. Chanza has served as a national team leader in various roles. Among others, she was the national team leader of a FAO project on capacity needs assessment for supporting national agriculture innovation systems in Malawi. She was the team leader in the development of the guidelines for the operationalization of the decentralized agricultural extension system in Malawi. She also led the national team that facilitated the accomplishment of a competency-based Extension curriculum and curricular revitalization in sub-Saharan Africa by managing and coordinating the project titled "Strengthening Agricultural Extension Training in sub-Saharan Africa: Process Skills and Competency Gaps in Agricultural Extension Curriculum" with collaborations from Michigan State University, Indira Ghandi Open University, University of Pretoria, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Makerere University and Egerton University.
