Dr. Horace Phiri is a highly accomplished Senior Lecturer and the current Head of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), holding a Ph.D. in Agriculture and Resource Economics from the University of Malawi. His academic and professional career spans both institutional leadership including service as the Programmes M&E Specialist and Deputy Head of Department at LUANAR. He has previously worked at IFPRI and IITA in research capacities. Specializing in applied economics, Dr. Phiri's research agenda is dedicated to evidence-based solutions for regional challenges, focusing on the political economy of farm policy, the impact of international trade, and rigorous impact assessments related to market dynamics, resource management, and rural development. He actively translates his expertise through lecturing and through collaborative research projects funded by organizations, directly contributing to agricultural policy and poverty alleviation strategies in Malawi and the wider sub-Saharan African region
