About Mrs KASAMBALA DONGA Trust

I am a Senior Lecturer in Entomology Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. I have over 10 years� experience in agricultural entomology. My work involves teaching, research and outreach. My research interests focus on developing, adapting and delivering 1) non-synthetic-chemical crop protection products, 2) biological control of insect pests, 3) pollinator biology, 4) indigenous knowledge for sustainable pest management, 5) integrated pest management. The emphasis is on maize, legumes, tomato and sugarcane.
Major current activities include: � Innovative digital plant health service to improve food security � Understanding the bio-ecology of fall armyworm in the local environment and systematizing the role of local farmers' practices in the management of the pest in Malawi. � Harnessing pollinator bioinformatics in Malawi through understanding of agroecological interventions � Field sampling of pests of sugarcane, tomato and mango insect pests in central Malawi � Laboratory and field experimentation and demonstration of efficacy of botanical pesticides � Field demonstration of indigenous technologies for field pest management � Supervising student research projects and entomology research lab assistants � Statistical analysis of research data and communicating research results to both scientific and non-scientific communities. � Training of smallholder farmers on good pesticide handling and storage techniques, identification and conservation of beneficial insects.
