About Mrs Fydess KHUNDI

Dr Fydess Khundi holds a PhD in Renewable Energy (Socio-Economics) from University of Rwanda, College of Science & Technology, African Centre of Excellency Energy for Sustainable Development (Nyarugenge Campus). Her PhD thesis title was " Household Analysis of Energy Transitions and Inequalities: A Cross-Country Case Study of Rwanda & Malawi". In addition, she holds a collaborative master’s degree in Development & Natural Resource Economics from Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway), Makerere University (Uganda) & University of Malawi (Malawi). She holds also a bachelor’s degree in agriculture (Agricultural economics option) from University of Malawi. In terms of Professional experience, Dr Fydess started her career as a Secondary School teacher at Mulanje Secondary School in July, 2005. Thereafter, later on in April, 2006 Dr Fydess joined Ministry of Agriculture where she worked as the Agribusiness Officer at the Zomba District Agriculture Office. Then later on She got transferred to Lilongwe District Agriculture Office whilst holding the same post. In 2010 , Dr Fydess left the civil service briefly and joined the Centre For Social Concern championing the Urban Basic Needs Basket programme as a Social Conditions Programs Officer. After a brief service, she later joined the Malawi National Assembly( Malawi Parliament) where she served the position of Planning and Policy Officer from 2011 to 2012. In December, 2012 she later joined Bunda College under University of Malawi which later became an independent university now known as Lilongwe University of Agriculture & Natural Resources (LUANAR). Dr Fydess Khundi has been with LUANAR throughout its inception and has continued to serve in a Lectureship position till to date.

Dr Fydess's research interests largely revolve around promoting Sustainable Development Agenda in areas of Environmental/Consumption economics for Indigenous foods & others , Inequalities and socio protection & economic/social inclusion analysis, market-based environmental regulations, energy justice, and energy use in developing country context & ecological economics; Water- Food -Energy Nexus and the environment.
