About Dr Beston MAONGA

Dr. Beston B. Maonga – An Associate Processor of Agricultural and Applied Economics Dr. Beston B. Maonga is an expert in Development Policy Planning and Analysis. His academic and research focuse on Smallholder Farmers Sustainable Land Resources Management, Agricultural Marketing, and Household Food Security. Dr. Beston B. Maonga pursued his undergraduate studies at Bunda College of Agriculture where he earned a Diploma and BSc Degree in Agriculture with a major in Rural Development. He studied for his PhD in Agriculture and Rural Economics from Hiroshima University in Japan, where he also obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in the same field. As Associate Processor of LUANAR Dr. Beston B. Maonga teaches Agricultural Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, Market and Price Analysis, and Demography and Economic Development. He also supervises students on a wide range of themes related to Economic Development, with a keen interest in Rural Development and the plight of smallholder farmers. He has done notable research in Post harvest grain storage and management, Regional Food Security and Dietary Diversity, Soil and Water Conservation as well as an exploration of Sustainable Energy Sources for Resource Poor Households. He has published quite a notable number of research articles and some book chapters in high impact international journals. Dr. Bedton B. Maonga has also served in management positions under the LUANAR academic system. He is currently the Director of the Africa Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Policy Analysis (ACE II AF-APA). Previously he served in other portfolios including the Dean of Faculty of Development Studies and as a Deputy Head of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.
