Lilongwe, September 26, 2025, the Lecture Theatre at LUANAR came alive on Friday as the Department of Human Ecology hosted the Human Ecology for Impact event, an inspiring program that blended music, drama, poetry, and life-changing testimonies.

The event opened with remarks from Mrs. Kabambe, a lecturer in the department, who reflected on the remarkable growth of Human Ecology, from enrolling only two students at its inception to now accommodating hundreds. The highlight of the day was a moving presentation by Mama Deidre Madise, a renowned HIV & AIDS activist. Speaking in a style that resonated strongly with the Gen Z audience, she shared her personal journey of growing up with HIV, the challenges she endured, and the strength that carried her through. Her core message emphasized abstinence, protection, and the importance of knowing one’s status. She further pledged to work with LUANAR management to introduce HIV self-testing kits on campus, noting, “Kumakhala ma fana a look sharp,” as she urged students to take responsibility for their health.

Also inspiring the audience was Chifundo, a Human Ecology alumna, who shared her powerful testimony of turning struggles into motivation for success. Her story, drawn from her days on campus, resonated deeply with many students who saw themselves in her journey.

In her closing address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor encouraged students to dream big, stay focused, and put their best effort into their studies. She gave special attention to the girl child, urging them to recognize their worth and remain steadfast in their academic pursuit.

The Human Ecology for Impact event left students energized and motivated, with many describing it as a memorable celebration of talent, resilience, and hope.
