The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has accredited Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). The council, which was established by Act No. 15 of 2011 to regulate higher education in Malawi, also accredited programmes being offered at LUANAR.

In a statement that was issued to the university on 5th January2018, LUANAR passed the assessment for accreditation that the council conducted late last year.

“The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) at its 19th meeting held on 22nd December, 2017 accredited with conditions the Bunda Campus, NRC Campus and City Campuses of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR,” reads part of the report.

Director of Quality Assurance at LUANAR, Prof. Weston Mwase, said the accreditation is a clear indication that LUANAR is performing well in providing higher education. “This Means that, as an institution, we are doing fine,” he said.

However, the accreditation authority, made some recommendations for the institution as there are some areas that still need improvement. In response to this, Prof. Mwase said they are working tirelessly to resolve the outstanding issues. “We are working on that through improvement plan and will be submitted mid-March.” He said.

Prof. Mwase went further to say that the recommendations will help the university to realise its vision of becoming a world class university. “We want to take this an opportunity to be ranked worldwide.”

LUANAR got accredited after successfully passing the accreditation assessment by NCHE in all aspects in the assessment criteria such as teaching, learning and research aspects, quality of programmes, qualification of staff, infrastructure and policies, just to mention a few.
