The Faculty of veterinary medicine at LUANAR was established in 2013 and began its professional education program in 2014. The Faculty graduated its first batch 12 veterinary doctors in 2019.

The faculty is nationally recognized by NICHE and internationally recognized by association of Veterinary Colleges in Eastern and Sothern Africa. Our brand is innovative teaching strong university industry linkage, practical teaching with early clinical induction and excellence in research.

The BVM is a six year program the training consists lectures, laboratories, field practices which is based on student centered teaching. The curriculum is organized in to six modules: One year prevet, foundation of veterinary medicine. One year biomedical sciences focusing structure and function from gross microscopic and molecular level. One year Pathobiology dealing with etiological agents, body defense and principle of therapy. Two years of medical, surgical and obstetrical sciences, focusing on food animals. However, working animals, small animals, wild animals, aquatic animals and bees are included. Epidemiology and public health (One health, food hygiene and environmental health) is also offered in to the surgical and medical module. The final year is a research module in which students undertake rotations in clinic, lab, farms and public health modules and undertake a full year research and a thesis for partial fulfilment of BVM.

In addition to these students also take 20% supportive courses mainly zootechnology module which deals with animal production and other courses that are distributed throughout the programme and Animal welfare is integrated in all aspects of the module.

Veterinary research is conducted in the faculty and has international collaborations with University of Edinburgh, Valencia, Hokkaido, Cornel, and ILRI. The faculty emphasizes research of infectious diseases, Research is also conducted on immunity and nutrition, cardiovascular diseases, reproductive diseases, and diseases of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife.

Public Service. The service programs focus on the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and control and prevention of animal diseases. The faculty assists veterinary practitioners, animal owners, and the general public through partnership with government and NGOs.
