Professor
Emmanuel Kaunda is the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Professor of Fisheries Science at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Fisheries (LUANAR). He holds a PhD in Fisheries Science at Rhodes University in 2001 where he also got the esteemed “Best PhD Seminar Award" at the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science. Professor Emmanuel Kaunda got 3rd Prize of the IMPRESSA (Impact Research and Science in Africa) Award 2013 by RUFORUM as one of the best scientists in Africa significant contribution in the field of aquaculture and fisheries research and science including human and institutional development in Africa. Before this, Professor Kaunda received a Certificate of recognition for significant contribution to Research & Outreach to LUANAR in 2012, and In 2011, winner of the Aquaculturist of the Year 2011 by the Aquaculture Association of Southern Africa (AASA) in 2011. In addition to administrative duties, Professor Kaunda has also been instrumental in configuring the shape of the CAADP National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIPS) for many countries in the region. In this regard, he is the co founder of African Fisheries Experts Network (AfrFishNet)- a fisheries voice for CAADP, whose team has reviewed more than 20 NAIPS on the continent to ensure that fish is appropriately positioned. He recently facilitated an AU meeting on how livestock can be mainstreamed in the CAADP Results Framework after the Malabo declaration. He is the Coordinator of the African Union Aquaculture Working Group as well as Coordinator of the NEPAD Fish Node of the Southern Africa Network on Biosciences (SANBio). Professor Kaunda has published more than 50 papers in reviewed journals, conference proceedings and book chapters and has supervised more than 20 MSc and PhD students.
