Associate Professor
Dr.Daniel Sikawa is an Associate Professor in Aquatic Resources Management in the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Science, Faculty of Natural Resources. He has special interest in Aquaculture Production Systems and has vast experience in integrated agriculture and aquaculture systems. Has worked as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Environmental Science, from September, 2012 to August, 2014. He was Head of Department, Aquaculture and Fisheries Science Department, from 2007 to 2009. He begun his academic career in 1999 but before that he worked in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Department of Fisheries as Regional Fisheries Officer (Northern Region of Malawi) Currently he is coordinating the following project; Concerted Fit-for-purpose PhD training in aquaculture and fisheries to improve food security and livelihoods in Sub-Saharan Africa, ACP-EU Co-operation Program in Higher Education (EDULINK II) Total project cost = EURO 588,000, Period 42 months from October 2013; Malawi Pilot Development Project, Agricultural Technology Transfer funded by DFID; Food Security, adequate care and environmental quality: development and testing of Eco-Health guidelines for community actions in the context of climate change. Funded by IDRC; and Malawi- Coastal Resource Management through Enhanced Stewardship, CIDA Scaling Up Project. The objective is to ensure environmental sustainability and its consequent positive impact on the populace of Malawi coastal communities through increased stewardship, funded by CIDA He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in 2010 in aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management, from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand and a Master of Science degree in aquaculture from the same institution in 1993
