Faculty of Food and Human Sciences at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in collaboration with the Department of Nutrition, HIV and AIDS (DNHA) has organized a training for District Core members and Front Line Workers from Balaka district on Food preparation and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) recipes with financial support from Irish Aid.
The training which will take place from Monday 27th June up to Friday 1st July, 2016 will be conducted at Ngoms Lodge in Balaka district.
According to LUANAR Project Coordinator for Capacity Building for Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) and Food Fortification, Lloyd Mmangisa DNHA under the Ministry of Health embarked on Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN): 1000 Special Days movement which aims at reducing under nutrition through the scaling up of high impact nutrition interventions, from pregnancy to 2 years of a child’s life through Nutrition Education and Communication Strategy (NECS) saying included in the NECS, is a district roll out plan to guide in effective implementation of SUN: 1000 special Days activities from district to community level.
He said it is for this reason that LUANAR in conjunction with DNHA organized this training to facilitate this roll out.
“The participants will be oriented in the translated SUN Community Workers Training Manual to address two new modules of Malaria and Family Planning and through this training, it is expected that these participants will cascade the knowledge that they will gain at this training so that it is reaches the community level ,” said Mmangisa.
The workshop was officially opened by the Deputy Director (Administarion) in the DNHA, Mr Owen P. Wanda.
