Standard Bank Head of Marketing and Communication handing over the cheque to the awardees
Standard Bank on Friday awarded scholarships worth MK 5464 million to three students at LUANAR. This comes after along partnership that exists between these two institutions.

Speaking during the Awards Ceremony at LUANAR Bunda Campus, Standard Bank Head of Marketing and Communication, Thoko Unyolo said her institution realises the need of education thereby working closely with stakeholders in education.

“At tertiary level, Standard Bank has been working with LUANAR since 2014 and through this partnership, we provide scholarships to outstanding students in the field of agriculture,” she said.

She said since agriculture is one of the main sectors of the country’s economy, standard Bank decided to support students in this sector.

She further said her institution will support these students until they finish their studies saying once they finish then more students will be sponsored through this scholarship which includes tuition, accommodation medical fees, book allowance and research funds.

In his remarks, LUANAR Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda hailed Standard Bank for the support saying this will go a long way to assist these students.

Professor Kaunda acknowledged the fact that there are more students that needs support like this one citing that most students are lacking basic needs such as food.

He said as an institution, LUANAR established a Scholarship Fund which is being run by various Faculty members, Public Relations Office and Office of students Welfare representatives.

“The idea is for the committee to look after the fund and award very needy students. As of now the committee has received over 300 applications,” he said.

Professor Kaunda further commended Faculty of Food and Human Sciences for its initiative in supporting the needy students by providing breakfast to them saying this shows the Faculty’s commitment towards the social welfare of the students.

One of the beneficiaries Chifuniro Kalawang’oma thanked Standard Bank for the continued support rendered to them saying the scholarship has lifted them and that there education is going on well without the challenges they used to face before.

The other two awardees were Isaac Banda and Theresa Makundika.
