Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Students for Climate Justice Club on Saturday organized an interactive awareness campaign on climate change and climate justice at Mitundu Seconday School.
The campaign which was organized in collaboration with TROCARE, LUANAR and UKaid in partnership with SANBio students’ team ambassadors was conducted to interact with secondary school students regarding climate change issues.
The event included many activities such as dancing competition, poems about the environment and group discussions on climate change that were followed by presentations of different topics.
Participants were divided in 5 groups that were asked to brainstorm on questions such as, what is climate change, causes of climate change, the role that the youth can play climate change mitigation and adaptation, understanding Elnino and its impact in Malawi.
The presentations that followed group discussions revealed interesting knowledge that youth harbour and their potential in addressing climate change. The youth promised to take up a leading role in advocating for climate justice and actions to adapt to climate change impacts.
Presenters of the plenaries and other participants were given different gifts such as A4 hardcovers, ballpoints, biscuits and many more.
At the end of it all, a certificate of participation was presented to the matron of Mitundu Secondary School Environmental Club, miss Mtende Nthara.
Student for Climate Justice is an organization composed of LUANAR student who work hand in hand with other organizations to raise awareness on climate change and climate justice.
