Deadline for submission of Research Proposals for RPC Grants: 18th March 2016
1. Preamble
The Directorate of Research and Outreach at the Lilongwe University of Agricultural and Natural Resources has financial resources amounting to Forty Million Kwacha (MK40 million) to support academic members of staff to carry out research projects that will lead to the generation of innovations, research products and technologies that have potential for assisting the national economic development in line with the LUANAR Strategic Plan. You are hereby invited to submit your research proposals to the Directorate of Research and Outreach by close of business on 18th March 2016.
2. Focal Areas of Research
There is no restriction regarding the focal areas of the research for this call so long as the proposal is aligned to the draft Research, Consultancy and Outreach Policy as well as Pillar II of the LUANAR Strategic Plan.
The Directorate welcomes research projects that involve other faculties, departments or disciplines with the aim of generating innovations, products and technologies depending on the goal of the research project. It is thus advisable that the research project proposals involve many disciplines (cross-disciplinary, cross-faculty) for greater impact as long as the project proposals have scientific and technological merits instead of submitting many small research proposals.
As part of the capacity development, applicants are encouraged to include academic members of staff at the Lecturer level. In this regard, the PI would act as a mentor for the junior staff member.
A single research proposal worth more than MK10 million may only be considered if is combines different work packages from across faculties or departments.
Research Format and Submission
Applicants are supposed to strictly follow the guidelines as stipulated in Guidelines for Proposal Development which accompanies this call are available from the DRO’s Office and can also be accessible from the LUANAR website. Full research proposals must be submitted through the Faculty Research and Publications Committee and must reach the Directorate of Research and Outreach by Friday 18th March 2016 both in hard and soft copies.
