Faculty of Natural Resources on Wednesday 12th January 2015 organised their first ever professional talk for all students in the faculty.
Dean for the Faculty Dr Wilfred Kadewa said that not all students studying different programmes in the faculty were aware of the opportunities within their areas of study.
He said this prompted the Faculty to organise a forum for the students to interact with professionals in the area of natural resources.
He further said this was the first time for the Faculty to organise such an important event and plans to continue organising such forums.
One of the key speakers at the function, Hon. Grain Malunga, a Former Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining encouraged students to work hard in their studies saying natural resources are the basis for economic development in the country.
He said there are so many opportunities out there citing climate change, food security, aquaculture as fish is the main source of protein in the country.
He advised students to work hard, focus and have vision so that they do well in their studies.
Hon. Malunga further emphasised on the need for entrepreneurial skills saying time has changed therefore students should aim at starting their businesses after completing their studies.
Concurring with Hon. Malunga, Mrs Rose Bell, the Programme Manager for Rural Infrastructure Development Programme said there are a lot of issues surrounding natural resources saying climate change has brought a lot of opportunities for the natural resources sector.
The faculty has three departments namely; Department of Forestry, Environmental Sciences and Management Department, and Aquaculture and Fisheries Science Department.
