Rose Sakala is the definition of persistence and belief. Despite all the setbacks she has faced, she is a role model and she is creating opportunities for thousands of young Malawians. She conducts different motivational talks and she works with different international organisations in areas of food, nutrition, entrepreneurship and women empowerment. She believes that if a girl has the chance of being educated she can have a respectable life. She can ensure that her family and her entire community lead a better life. “Every girl has a motherly ability, which enables her to take care of the community, the environment and the Earthâ€.
Rose Sakala was born in a poor family in a destitute area in this country which does not even have adequate healthcare services, high unemployment rate, a lot of hopeless young people and she herself has always lived in poverty and under constant threat of food insecurity. Her mother died three years ago from HIV and AIDS, which also caused the death of other seven members of Rose’s family. Rose was forced to abandon her studies for a year due to poverty and lack of support from her parents, while she was attending the Natural Resources College, as she was unable to pay the school fees until later when she was helped back to school. But she put behing all her disadvantaged background to put the plight of her nation first.
She has participated in “Starting from girls: they are the source to trigger a change!†the convention organized by Save the Children during the Women’s Weeks, to guarantee a better future for teenagers. “The other half of the Planet- Women’s Weeks†was a cycle of events that took place from the 29th of June to the 10th of July at Expo Milano in 2015: a debate on the great challenges of nutrition and female empowerment in which she was a speaker and her speech has attracted more action and thoughts about Malawi’s food status, education and girl child empowerment.
